Maria de Jesus Estrada Juarez returned to the United States on March 30th and was reunited with her daughter after over a month of separation.
Washington, D.C. – Late last night, following weeks of separation from her U.S. citizen daughter, DACA recipient Maria de Jesus Estrada Juarez, safely returned home to the United States thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates and attorneys on the ground.
Maria’s return marks a monumental victory in the fight to uphold justice, due process, and the DACA program at a time when close to 300 DACA recipients have been detained and close to 90 deported that we know of. The news of Maria’s arrival back home comes on the heels of last week’s ruling from federal Judge Dena Coggins’, who ordered the federal government bring Maria home after calling her deportation a “flagrant violation” of DACA’s promise of protection.
The Home Is Here Coalition released the following statement:
“Our hearts are full knowing that Maria can hug her daughter once again. Her return home is a monumental victory for all of us who have been fighting to bring attention to the grave threats against the DACA program. More than we have ever seen in DACA’s 14-year history, hundreds of DACA recipients have been unlawfully detained, deported, and disappeared in recent months despite their valid and active status. That is why we will not let justice end with Maria’s story.
Maria’s victory is a reminder to the federal government that due process isn’t optional. We will continue to fight to ensure Maria is able to stay with her family in the U.S., push for the immediate release and return of all other DACA recipients who have been wrongfully detained or deported, and demand a pathway to citizenship for the millions left vulnerable to violent anti-immigrant attacks. We hope that Maria and her family can begin to heal after surviving this trauma, and we carry her strength with us as we fight for justice and accountability for those who have not yet been able to see their loved ones again.”

The Home Is Here national coalition is fighting to protect DACA recipients, their families, and all immigrant communities at the U.S. Supreme Court. DACA recipients are undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. They are also our nurses, our teachers, our coworkers, our family members, and our friends — and their home is here.
