Washington, D.C. — Tomorrow, October 10th, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans will hear oral arguments on a crucial case threatening essential protections for DACA recipients and immigrant families across the country. Anti-immigrant forces, who have spent more than a decade targeting DACA recipients and DACA-eligible youth for deportation, will argue before a judge in their latest effort to further separate families.

The lawsuits against the DACA program (Texas v. United States) and the Biden Administration’s recently announced ‘Keeping Families Together’ process (Texas v. DHS) threaten to destroy life-changing protections for families and immigrant communities across the country. While the hearing for the Keeping Families Together process has been canceled, the attacks against both DACA and these vital protections to keep loved ones together highlight the determined agenda of the anti-immigrant fringe to lay the groundwork for the largest mass deportation campaign in modern U.S. history.

The Home Is Here Coalition — representing 100+ organizations across the country — released the following statement:

“October 10th will be etched in history as a painful reminder of the relentless, years-long attacks by anti-immigrant extremists who have made it their life’s mission to target DACA recipients, DACA-eligible youth, and immigrant families. The threat posed by these lawsuits is not just about ending protections—it’s the latest and clearest step toward a broader plan to enact the largest deportation campaign in modern U.S. history by leaving hundreds of thousands of people vulnerable to being targeted by immigration agents.

DACA and the Keeping Families Together (Parole in Place) process are the most important lifelines for over a million immigrants who have lived, worked in, and contributed to the U.S. for decades. An end to these protections will threaten separation for millions of families across every community in the country. The moral and just choice here is clear: the courts must rule on the side of justice and the overwhelming majority of Americans who want to see DACA upheld and families kept together. Collectively, we have a responsibility to reject the violent efforts to expand the horrors of family separation.

The Home is Here coalition remains committed to defending DACA recipients and immigrant families at every turn. We will stand against any attempt to return to a time marked by mass deportation and fear within the immigration system and urge the 5th Circuit Court to reject bad faith political efforts to attack families and immigrants, and preserve legal programs like DACA. No matter what, we will take action to keep each other safe.”

The Home Is Here national coalition is fighting to protect DACA recipients, their families, and all immigrant communities at the U.S. Supreme Court. DACA recipients are undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. They are also our nurses, our teachers, our coworkers, our family members, and our friends — and their home is here.
