Washington, D.C. – The Supreme Court is set to rule any day on President Trump’s cruel attempts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. While DACA recipients and their families await the decision, recent data from Hart Research for the Center for American Progress Action Fund shows that 70% of voters support DACA, including large majorities of Democrats, independents and Republicans.

Trump is causing a great deal of turmoil for DACA recipients and their families, and going against the will of the American public in doing so. The Home is Here Coalition recognizes this is a crisis President Trump created, and that he can end right now.

The Home Is Here Coalition – representing over 100 organizations across the country – released the following statement:

“President Trump chose to kill DACA as part of his strategy to hurt all immigrants. He put 700,000 DACA recipients at risk of losing their ability to work and at risk of deportation. He created this crisis and he has the power to end it right now. It is false to assume that Trump has to wait for the Supreme Court decision. Trump and the Department of Justice have the power to remove the DACA case from the Supreme Court today .

If the Court sides with Trump and allows him to end DACA, this will be a catastrophe with ripple effects for immigrant communities and the country as a whole. Over 200,000 DACA recipients are currently on the front lines as essential grocery store workers, janitors, farm workers, doctors, nurses, educators and others, helping to keep our country moving during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump is responsible for the deaths of more than 70,000 people from COVID-19, and he is actively choosing to create further chaos by ending DACA and deporting hundreds of thousands of people from their home.”

The Home Is Here national coalition is fighting to protect DACA recipients, their families, and all immigrant communities at the U.S. Supreme Court. DACA recipients are undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. They are also our nurses, our teachers, our coworkers, our family members, and our friends — and their home is here.
